The international code for the regional area is 291.The whole Island is fully advanced with IT network, and almost all the hotels are provided with internet access.
Exchange offices are opening from 09.00 till 13.00 and from 14.00 until 19.00 and most of the bank’s opening hours are from 08.30 till 15.00.The currency is Euro.
In case of a big emergency you can dial any time the number 112 which is the local’s police officer number. He is normally patrolling at the centre of Funchal.In the area someone can find 2 main hospitals and several public health centres.
The airport is 24 km far away from Funchal ( almost 35 minutes by taxi).Nowadays the airport is being enlarged in order to receive bigger planes. In the future the airport is going to be international. Porto Santo has a very modern terminal and a runway almost 3.000 metres.
There is a special credit cards system which is acceptable to all the restaurants, bars, and shops. Normally there is on hotel and restaurant bills a service tax included. It is usual to give a tip of 10% for good services.
Tourists from the European Community have always free entrance to Funchal.Other international visitors need their passports and in some cases they need visa. There is no need of any vaccination.
Two main airlines offer direct service from U.K to Funchal –Tap Funchal Airlines and British airlines. Finally there are some charter flights as well from London airports.
