The importance in Madeira’s and Funchal’s wines to the local economy surpassed that of sugar beginning for the Portuguese colonies in the Americas after the 1500.
With its population over 100.000 inhabitants is said to be the larger city in the area. It’s name came up from Fennel ( Funchal in Portuguese ) which is growing locally there. Funchal is situated on the south part of Madeira Islands, in an absolutely unique area.Anyone can discover the area by foot, walking into the city centre and enjoy its sights very easily.
